Stay & Train is a multi-week send away training intensive to fast track your way to an amazing companion, often referred to as a “board and train.” Your dog will come home with an education in manners and obedience that is easy for you to maintain. Client goals are discussed extensively prior to booking.

This small and exclusive program means your dog is getting way more personal attention and training.

Your best bud is living in a home environment getting a lot of training in real life, not a sterile boarding facility.

Your pup will have nearly 24/7 supervision, unlike the 12+ hours most facilities leave their dogs overnight.

Most importantly, Barkitects’ training methods allow your dog to learn new skills and rules without pain or intimidation.

At Barkitects, all provided training is done motivationally. Unlike most Long Island board and train programs, you will not find any choke, prong or shock collars on the dogs in our care. Dogs are rewarded with treats, play, attention and real life rewards to strengthen your dog’s behavior. Skills will be built and new habits formed replacing all the undesirable behavior. Rules and boundaries are installed to ensure good manners. No yelling or yanking required!

Yes. Barkitects will do the hard part, you just have to maintain the progress. The Go-Home Lesson and Follow Up Lessons are essential to your success.

In order to make notable changes to your dog’s behavior, time is needed to develop a relationship with your dog, teach the skills and then proof them to work in real life.

For current clients with training packages, a two week option is offered due to the existing relationship.

Yes, and it is included in the cost of the program. All Stay & Train dogs will get a lesson with their owners at the time of returning home.

In addition, Follow Up Lessons are given over the next few weeks. For clients out of the service area, follow ups are virtual.

For the younger puppies in the Puppy Co-Raiser program, there is an option where they return home on Friday to spend the weekend with their families.

A Go-Home Lesson is provided at the time of drop off so the puppy parents have new things to practice over the weekend. The puppy returns Monday morning to Barkitects to learn more new and fun things!

Please note, this is offered on a case-by-case basis.

No, board and train is not always the best return on your investment. Barkitects prides itself on being honest on what type of training will most benefit you and your dog, not what will benefit the company’s bottom line.

Here are just a few examples where b&t is not the most appropriate choice for the client:

• The family is going to find it difficult to follow up with the new training habits.

• The problematic behavior is extremely contextual and therefore removing the dog from the environment to train does not help.

• If the training environment is incredibly different than the problematic one. An example would be issues between the dog and the household children.

• Dog who will be extremely stressed or anxious away from their owners or in a new environment requiring a lot of time to acclimate. High levels of stress inhibits learning.

Each dog is trained 4-6 times per day. In between sessions, there is ample play time for the dogs.

Dogs are crated on and off throughout the day to ensure they get enough rest to retain their lessons. This is well balanced with play, learning time and field trips. The dogs are not left crated for more than 2-3 hours at a time (besides overnight), at which point most dogs are happy to take a nap.

If there is an appropriate playmate and it will help your dog, yes! Barkitects tries to match up Stay & Train clients when there is likely to be a good playmate match. Often, owners of new found friends get together for future play dates!

In most cases for older puppies and teens, it is usually not encouraged for the sake of your dog and their training progress. It takes most dogs a few days to settle in (like a kid going to sleep-away camp) and sometimes a visit from family can reset that. You will never be denied the opportunity to visit your best friend, but you will be let know if it’s not the best interest of your training progress. Don’t worry though, you’ll be getting photo/video updates a few times a week!

No, your puppy or dog does not need to be spayed or neutered to enroll. Intact animals over 6 months of age may require more flexibility in dates. Females in season are, however, unable to be accepted.

For puppies under the age of 5 months, they must be up to date on age appropriate vaccines (distemper/parvo).

Dogs over the age of 5 months are required to have the distemper/parvo and rabies vaccines.

Bordatella is recommended. All dogs are required to be current on flea/tick preventative and have a negative fecal test within 60 days.

To mitigate any illness risk, puppies are accepted to Stay & Train after living in your home for a minimum of 7 days.

You will be asked to provide food for your dog, favorite toys, leash and collar. If your dog has a specific diet, you will be asked to provide treats and chews as well.

In order to keep the Stay & Train program small and personalized, deposits are required at the time of contract signing.

A 25% non-refundable and non-transferable deposit is required to reserve dates at the signing of the contract. The remaining balance is due 7 day prior to drop off.
